4 Social Media Management Tips To Build A ‘Real’ Twitter Following
Posted in Marketing Strategy on May 24, 2012
Building a real Twitter following isn’t about having billions of followers; it’s about using killer social media management tactics to have the right followers.
“So I’m also here to tell you that it’s not how many followers you have, but how many relevant followers you have. Having 20,000 followers who don’t respond to anything you share is equivalent to shouting from the top of the Empire State Building and claiming all of New York City as your audience,” wrote social media expert Rich Brooks recently on Social Media Examiner.
Brooks, the president of an Internet marketing company, suggests that companies looking to grow a “more relevant” Twitter audience follow these four tips.
Brooks’ first two tips most marketers understand:
- Find and follow relevant people
- Tweet interesting stuff
Simple. Easy. Totally got it, right? OK, moving on.
Brooks’ final two tips take some work from most marketers so we’ll elaborate a bit more:
- Engage — By joining the conversation in appropriate chats, you can quickly build your relevant followers … assuming you have something valuable to add! Schedule chats to reach a wider audience.
- Promote your Twitter account through other channels — Talk up Twitter at your website, blog and through email. Include Twitter handles on all of your bios. Get more visibility with a Paper.li newspaper, which is a free service that allows you to create “newspapers” out of your Twitter feed.
